Green Glue Noiseproofing Sealant tubes

Noiseproofing Sealant

Green Glue Noiseproofing Sealant is used to fill gaps and joints where the wall meets the floor or ceiling, and where two walls meet so sound can’t pass through.

Noiseproofing Sealant

Green Glue Noiseproofing Sealant is the best finishing acoustical sealant for your soundproofing application, stopping sound dead in its tracks. Seams and cracks in walls, ceilings and floors can allow sound to leak out and transfer between two spaces, but our flexible Sealant is designed to plug those gaps and remain effective for years to come.

Green Glue Noiseproofing Sealant is a high-performance alternative to standard latex or silicone caulk for interior acoustical applications. The damping properties of this product provide better acoustical performance than standard finishing methods, meaning better protection against sound transfer. It is non-hazardous, has practically no odor and resists drying out or cracking with age. Having been independently tested by Underwriters Laboratories for fire, smoke, and environmental impact, our Sealant offers safe and effective protection against sound, while remaining focused on the sustainability.

Noiseproofing Sealant installation considerations

When installing Sealant, the size of the gap being filled is what matters most. It is recommended to leave a 1/8 - 1/2 in (0.3 - 0.6 cm) maximum gap around the perimeter of your wall or ceiling drywall to fill with Sealant; if the gap is larger, the Sealant will not cure properly. Once the Sealant has been applied to the wall seems, allow 48 hours to dry before covering it with standard finishing materials, such as mud and tape. Our Sealant can be painted over and will continue to block sound once it has been covered.

Some details to keep in mind when using Green Glue Noiseproofing Sealant:

  • A good rule of thumb is that for every 6 tubes of Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound, you will need one tube of Sealant

  • Sealant can also be used to fill small gaps around switch boxes, outlets and interior windows to stop noise from sneaking in

  • You can use the same 32-oz caulking gun used to apply Compound to also apply Sealant

  • Sealant does not offer any protection or seal against water and should only be used in interior applications

Our most frequently asked questions

Green Glue Noiseproofing Sealant tubes

How much Sealant do I need for my project?

Each tube of our Sealant typically provides 40-80 linear feet (12-24 m) of coverage, depending on the size of the hole cut in the nozzle. In many cases, you will only need a tube or two to complete a project. A good rule of thumb is a 6:1 ratio between Compound and Sealant.

Sealant Installation in 3 Easy Steps

Step 1

Tap Sealant tube on a hard surface to bring Sealant away from the tip to prevent dripping.

Step 2

Cut a ¼ in (6.35 mm) hole in the tip of the tube with a utility knife, screw nozzle tightly over the tip of the tube and cut a ¼ in (6.35 mm) hole in the tip of the nozzle before placing the tube in a standard caulk gun.

Step 3

Apply to gaps 1/8 – ¼ in (0.3 – 0.6 cm) size where the wall meets the floor or ceiling.

Benefits of soundproofing with Sealant

Easy to use

Reusing the same applicator as the Compound, Sealant installation is as easy as 1, 2, 3

Fire safety and environmentally tested

Blocks indirect sound travel

Seals cracks and gaps to prevent unwanted noise from escaping a room

If applied in visible areas like switches, windows, sockets and wall seams, it’s good to know that our Sealant handles paint well for finishing

Designed for longevity
